Notified Area at ‘Neral Surrounding Area’, ‘Karjat Surrounding Area’, ‘Poynad Surrounding Area’ and ‘Alibag Surrounding Area
1. Overview
The Urban Development Department, Government of Maharashtra, vide Notification No. TPS-1226/468/CR-51/26/NSA,KSA,PSA,ASA/UD-12 dated 19 May, 2026, under Section 40(1)(c) of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, has notified:
- 13 revenue villages from Ambernath Tahsil, District Thane and 11 revenue villages from Karjat Tahsil, District Raigad as Neral Surrounding Notified Area;
- 28 revenue villages from Karjat Tahsil, District Raigad as Karjat Surrounding Notified Area;
- 11 revenue villages from Alibag Tahsil, District Raigad as Poynad Surrounding Notified Area;
- 11 revenue villages from Alibag Tahsil, District Raigad as Alibag Surrounding Notified Area;
and appointed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) as Special Planning Authority (SPA) for the said area.
2. Current Status
In pursuance of the provisions of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, necessary statutory and administrative action is being undertaken in the notified area for discharging the functions of the Special Planning Authority and for preparation and submission of Development Plan to the Government for approval.
